BURNLEY are tracking a fresh Premiership target.
Manager Adrian Heath confirmed today that he has held preliminary talks with a Premiership manager as he bids to strengthen his squad for a Second Division promotion charge.
The Turf Moor boss added that here could be further developments before Saturday's difficult Division Two task at Chesterfield.
Heath was keeping the player's identity-and position-firmly under wraps.
But said: "He's only 24 and is a quality footballer.
"We've kept track on him for several weeks now.
"We are keeping very close tabs on the situation and we hope to make more progress before the weekend."
Meanwhile, big defender Vince Overson could be a shock inclusion at Saltergate. Overson came through a full 90 minutes of yesterday's private friendly against a Blackburn Rovers Select XI at Brockhall.
Rovers-who included Billy McKinlay, Stuart Ripley, Jason Wilcox and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given in a powerful line-up-ran out 5-0 winners.
But the fixture proved a valuable exercise. It gave Heath the chance to run the rule over his two Italian trialists and handed Overson his first opportunity of a run-out since signing from Stoke last month..
"Vince did very well and he came through unscathed," added Heath.
"If he suffers no reaction today I just might include him in the squad at Chesterfield." Heath was impressed by the form of both Roberto Vezzosi and Andrei Cappechi as they made their competitive Clarets bow. They did well. They were comfortable and, as you would expect, they wanted to use the ball."
"It was their first taste of English conditions and they gave a promising display against a very strong Blackburn side.
"We were without a reserve game this week so it proved an ideal fixture."
Heath added:"Both lads will be with us for a week or two yet and we'll have another look at them in the reserve game at Carlisle on Wednesday."
Striker Andy Cooke could be an injury doubt for the weekend.
The rookie striker suffered a heavy kick on his calf against Rovers and was under intensive treatment today.
