LANCASHIRE'S John Stanworth asked angry Old Trafford members today to remember the good things in a season of highs and lows.
The acting-head coach finishes his one and only season in charge over the next four days after sharing in two triumphs and one disaster.
And he said: "I am not going to make excuses for some of our performances in the championship.
"But in doing the one-day double we produced some of the most exciting cricket ever seen and it should not be overshadowed completely by the disappointments in the championship. "It was less than two weeks ago that we beat Essex in that sensational manner at Lord's. Unfortunately we followed that up with a display at Northampton which perhaps highlighted some of our problems in the championship - and it's always your last game that you are judged by."
It was essential for Lancashire to end the season on a strong note in their last game against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
They were battling to restore some of their tarnished pride after one of the worst championship campaigns in the club's history.
They went into it without a string of senior players. Captain Mike Watkinson and Ian Austin are taking part in the Hong Kong Sevens, Mike Atherton is resting as part of his preparations for the winter tour with England and Steve Elworthy has returned home.
