IT'S a jungle out there - and according to a county councillor if the weeds gets any worse it will be like Triffids taking over Pendle.

Now Liberal Tony Greaves is demanding a re-think to put weed killing back as a priority job.

County Councillor Greaves says cash for weed control was slashed last spring, despite warnings that the move was short-sighted.

He said: "Local people are not unreasonably complaining to Pendle Council, which has carried out the work. But the villains are the County Council which decides the budgets and orders the work for Pendle to carry out.

"In many areas the situation is getting intolerable. There are weeds growing everywhere, collecting dirt, litter and dog dirt. The streets of Pendle are turning into jungles.

"The way things are going they might as well let a gang of Triffids loose on our towns."
