POLICE are seeking a thief who snatched a bag full of cash from a man in broad daylight in St Helens town centre.
The incident happened at about 2.15pm as the victim headed for the bank to deliver takings. Having walked up Westfield Street past the Royal Hotel he turned into Brook Street and a man whom he had passed in the doorway of the pub ran past snatching the bag from his grasp.
The victim was unhurt but was left extremely shocked and shaken and could only watch as the thief ran towards the front entrance of the college before disappearing.
He later described the thief as white, painfully thin and about 5ft 6ins tall. He had carrot-red hair in a very short crew-cut, was in his mid 20s, and wore jeans, a white-and-grey T-shirt with horizontal stripes, and a pair of white trainers.
If you saw the incident or have any information, you should contact the St Helens Crime Management Unit on 0151 777 6050 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
