IF you have ever thought of tracing your family tree, but don't know where to start, call in at Burnley Central Library.
Library staff and genealogy enthusiasts are combining their know-how for a Family History Day on Saturday, September 21, from 9.30am to 4pm.
Visitors will be shown some of the wealth of sources available in the library such as parish registers, old newspapers, trade directories, census returns and indexes, with friendly advice about how to use material which may at first seem difficult.
Organisers say not many people will have ancestors dating from William the Conqueror, but it is a fair bet there could be some intriguing characters along the way.
Members of the Pendle and Burnley branch of the Lancashire Family History Society will offer help on problems for anyone who has already started to trace their family tree, or who would like to take up the hobby.
