SOME new ideas on how to rid the streets of litter will be introduced next week - Keep Burnley Tidy Week.
Burnley council will launch a litter hot-line and announce plans for a neighbourhood waste watch scheme.
A fun day at Towneley on Sunday September 29 and a competition for schools, youth groups and community organisations are also planned.
The council's environmental chief, Mike Street, told the Citizen: "We will have the hot-line number ready next week. People can ring to complain or find out about street cleaning."
He added: "We are also looking for volunteers to become neighbourhood waste watchers. We want people from the community to help tackle litter in their area. The idea is to have a network of people who will let us know when there is a problem."
Cash prizes are on offer to groups who either organise clean-ups or help to raise awareness of litter problems. First prizes of £100 and runners-up prizes of £50 will be awarded in two categories: schools and youth groups, and community groups and residents' associations.
