AN inquest has opened into the death of a young deputy headteacher who died after a head-on collision on her motorcycle.
East Lancs coroner David Smith adjourned the hearing into the death of Susan O'Connor, 32, who died on Saturday at Laneshawbridge, near Colne, as she travelled to visit her mother in Blackburn.
Miss O'Connor's mother, Adrienne, of North Bank Avenue, Blackburn, told the Burnley inquest her daughter, of Lindley Road, Bradford, was "fit and active". She had passed her motorcycle test only two days before the accident but had done 2,000 miles and been on an extensive training course.
On Saturday, Miss O'Connor did not arrive at her mother's home and Mrs O'Connor learned of the accident when police contacted her elder son.
She then identified her daughter's body at Burnley General Hospital.
Miss O'Connor, a keen musician and sportswoman, was born in London but raised in Blackburn.
She was deputy head at Woodroyde Middle School in Bradford, a former pupils of Pleckgate High School in Blackburn, and studied for her Bachelor of Education degree at Bradford University.
