WHEELER-DEALER Adrian Heath could have a new face in his Turf Moor squad in time for Saturday's Division Two clash against Bristol City.
Heath has spent the past 48 hours tracking TWO targets and revealed: "I've made a firm enquiry about two players.
"The respective clubs are aware of our interest in the players. One of them is from the Premiership. They've promised to get back to us in the next 24 hours.
"The players I've got in mind would be more than welcome additions to the squad. I'm working hard to bring them to Burnley." While there is unlikely to be any transfer activity before tomorrow's Coca-Cola Cup second round, second leg tie against Charlton, Heath's injury problems are mounting up.
Striker Andy Cooke, utility man Gerry Harrison and midfielder Damian Matthew were all under treatment today.
While skipper Steve Thompson could be out of action for up to a month following keyhole surgery.
Heath added: "That situation could dictate my movements in the market. I may have to push things along a little bit."
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Marlon Beresford is likely to be ruled out tomorrow - on doctor's orders.
Burnley's number one missed the 0-0 draw at Chesterfield and will be rested for a week.
Heath explained: "Marlon has got a problem with his shoulder and the doctor feels that with several days rest it should do the trick.
"We don't think there is anything broken or torn but there is a problem with the attachment between the collar bone and the ligament.
"Every time he goes down on his shoulder he's in a lot of pain. We will just have to follow the medical advice. But, hopefully, he should be back for Bristol City."
Reserve Wayne Russell deputised at Saltergate and is likely to keep the goalkeeper's jersey tomorrow.
Heath added: "Wayne did very well at Chesterfield and I'm sure his assured performance will have give him plenty of confidence.
"It was a hard game to come into because there was a lot of pressure on him inside the penalty area."
Heath handed Paul Smith his first full league start of the season after Damian Matthew was ruled out with a leg injury.
The large contingent of Burnley fans also saw a first glimpse of central defender Vince Overson, a late second half substitute for Kurt Nogan. Heath added: "It's great to see Vince back in the frame and I'm delighted that he is fit again."
Defender Chris Vinnicombe returned to full training today - six months after breaking his ankle at Wycome Wanderers. "It will be like signing a new player for us and it's great to see him back. He's done all the rehabilitation and now it's just a case of building his match fitness up."
Terry Murphy and James Webster were on the mark for Burnley's A team in the 2-2 draw against Preston North End at Gawthorpe. The B team lost 2-0 at Carlisle United.
