NIGEL Coates has resigned as manager of Nelson.
Coates is understood to have offered his resignation following the crushing 5-2 League Challenge Cup defeat to Haslingden.
The Nelson board will meet tonight at Victoria Park to discuss a replacement.
Chairman Ken Broom said: "Nigel has resigned due to work commitments and we are very sorry to see him go.
"He's done a very good job at Nelson and is a quality non-league manager."
Broom also blasted rumours of a boardroom rift at Victoria Park, adding: "You get these rumours flying around but there's nothing in it."
Assistant manager Peter Rigby and reserve team boss Ian Britton are expected to remain at Victoria Park. Nelson are in league action at Castleton Garbriels tomorrow.
