BURNLEY'S Italian trialists will give their first public performance tonight.

The Italy youth internationals are pencilled in for a full 90-minute Pontins League run-out against Carlisle United at Brunton Park (7pm).

Roberto Vezzosi, from Napoli, and Andrei Capecchi, from Parma, made their Burnley bow in a private friendly against Blackburn Rovers a week ago.

But manager Adrian Heath will run the rule over the two youngsters again before making a final decision on whether to extend their Turf Moor trial.

"They both had impressive moments against Blackburn and we'll have another look at them tonight before deciding which way we go," said Heath.

"They've adapted quite well because it's proved quite hard for them. Their English is very limited so it's not easy for them."

The 22-year-old Vezzosi and Cappechi, 21, are both still technically contracted to Napoli and Parma but were loaned out to Serie B outfits Empoli and Lucchese last season.

Meanwhile, Heath praised Burnley's Coca-Cola Cup second round, second leg display against First Division Charlton Athletic last night. A last minute David Whyte strike denied Burnley a share of the second leg spoils and sentenced them to a crushing 6-2 aggregate defeat.

The tie was watched by an attendance of only 2,281-the smallest Coca-Cola Cup crowd from the 19 ties played last night.

Heath said: "We didn't deserve to lose that tie. We were the better side on the night.

"That level of performance will win most games in Division Two and that's what we've got to aim for. Generally, I thought our performance was quite good. We created one or two quality openings. I was very disappointed with the result.

"If we'd scored early in the second half I think we'd have gone on to make a proper game of it." Heath added: "We didn't make a positive start, conceding a poor first goal. It was a silly mistake. Realistically, that killed off any hope of getting back in the contest."

Big defender Vince Overson had a full run-out - his first full senior game since November. Heath said: "It was smashing to see Vince involved again. He did ever so well considering it was his first game for several months.

"Paul Smith also showed his skills and created a lot of openings for his team-mates."

Former Turf Moor favourite Adrian Randall played a starring role for York City as the Second Division side KO'd Joe Royle's Everton 4-3 on aggregate at Bootham Crescent.

And former Claret Danny Sonner scored the opener for Ipswich in their 4-2 win over Fulham.

Burnley's Division Two Lancashire derby against Bury at Gigg Lane next Tuesday is all-ticket. They are now on general sale.

There are 1,000 seats, priced £10 and £5, while there are 2,300 terrace spaces priced £9 (no concessions).
