AN East Lancashire council vowed to continue sending its poll tax debtors to prison.
Despite a plea to freeze all jail hearings until the outcome of high court action, Burnley Council refused to back down on its policy.
It was revealed that over 1,000 jobs had been lost in Blackburn and Darwen during 1990/91. Big employer's shedding jobs included Thwaites, Royal Ordnance, Matthew Brown and India Mill.
