Joanne Bancroft was exhibiting some of her painted ceramics when the Prince decided to take a closer look.
The event was the Prince's Youth Business Trust Trade Fair at Birmingham's NEC. Joanne, 31, set up her Zig Zag Studios business last year with help from the trust.
After five years of unemployment, Joanne received a loan of £5,000 and a £1,500 grant.
She said: "One of my pieces is a large vase with a painting of Pendle Hill on it. The Prince recognised the scene and said he was familiar with the area. I was really pleased that he came over and talked to me and that he liked my work."
