A MOTHER and daughter from Tyldesley are appealing to local teenagers to show some community spirit, and clean up after themselves.
Betty Ryder of Standish Street, a mother of eight, and her daughter Janet Smith of Primrose Street are appalled at the mess left each weekend and most nights by young people using nearby Astley Street park.
Dozens of soft drinks cans and beer cans are strewn across the park, close to picnic tables, by upto 50 teenagers who regularly use the recently refurbished park.
And on at least one occasion it has been estimated that as many as 200 cans and plastic bottles litter the area.
Mrs Ryder said: "We have been absolutely appalled at the amount of rubbish, particularly cans and bottles, left behind by the teenagers after the weekend and at night.
"We are appealing to their better nature to clean up after themselves before leaving the park. There are plenty of rubbish bins about and we know these youngsters are not bad kids. I have had eight of my own, so I think I know a bit about youngsters.
"The council have spent a lot of money on making the park look decent for local people and I hope everyone in the community will join us in encouraging their children to keep the place clean and tidy."
