A MAN who leapt from his burning car engulfed in flames, died from his injuries in Whiston Hospital.
John Hitchmough, aged 37, from Knowles House Avenue, Eccleston, drove to St Helens police station in College Street where his car, a G-reg green Austin Montego, suddenly burst into flames.
It happened at about 3am on Sunday, September 22, and officers rushed to Mr Hitchmough's assistance. He was rushed straight to Whiston Hospital's burn unit, but was pronounced dead at 5.30am.
Police had been searching for Mr Hitchmough since Saturday, September 21 when his parents had reported him missing at 9am.
An inquest was opened for identification purposes and was adjourned to a later date.
