AMBITIOUS Accrington Stanley have signed goal machine Peter Smith from fellow UniBond Premier club Barrow.
Smith - who was originally plucked from non-league football in the Preston area by current Stanley chairman Eric Whalley when he managed Great Harwood Town - is a prolific goalscorer and was signed for a nominal fee.
He will go straight into manager Tony Greenwood's squad for the visit to Alfreton Town on Saturday.
Competition for places at the Crown Ground is hotting up - Paul Moulden wasn't even named in the squad which last night's 2-1 home win against a strong Lancaster City.
Stanley director of football Brent Peters, said: "You wouldn't normally break up a winning side, but a player of Peter's calibre should figure at some point."
