POLICE are considering whether any kind of criminal offence has been committed by a man who was injured making mini-bombs at his Clitheroe home.
The man, who has not been named, suffered serious hand injuries when a "bolt bomb" he was putting together exploded.
Police have warned of the dangers of making these simple bombs which can maim, or even kill, despite still having the reputation as being something of a schoolboy prank.
PC David Smith said that a 25-year-old man came into Clitheroe police station covered in blood and with a serious hand injury.
PC Smith said: "These bombs are made with everyday items which can be obtained easily. "Making them is considered by some to be prank but it is quite obvious that the people who find their fun in this way are dicing with serious injury or even death.
"Obviously this man is older than a schoolboy but we are concerned about younger children getting involved in these kind of activities.
"We are appealing to them to steer clear and to parents to make sure their children are not playing with any kind of explosives or dangerous ingredients.
"There could possibly be some kind of offence involved as well as the more practical dangers."
