A FANTASTIC £5,644 in donations has helped push the SuperScan appeal one step nearer the £1 million target this week.

Almost a year after the appeal was launched the total stands at £262,121.39.

An amazing array of fund-raising efforts have swelled the coffers.

Workers from System Hygiene in Altham received a gold award after raising £983.54 through a Manchester to Blackpool bike ride.

Blackburn Ladies' Veteran Bowling League did their bit with a donation of £109 and a competition held at Whalley Golf Club netted £125.

The Mayor of Blackburn, Coun Mary Leaver also donated £350 from her charity fund.

Members of Beechwood Working Men's Club in Blackburn received a silver award after handing over a cheque for £1,007.

The cheque was presented at a special charity night which raised a further £400.

Club president Alex Dawe said: "We raised the £1,007 by getting members to bet on football cards and it took us nine months to do it.

"But, instead of just handing the cheque over, we decided to raise a bit more at a big charity night."

The appeal will provide a life-saving MRI scanner to be housed at Blackburn Royal Infirmary and used by the people of East Lancashire.
