REGARDING your report 'Fireworks sales will be tougher' (LET, August 18) I disagree that tighter controls may be needed, because most display fireworks are safe for public use and most do comply with British Standard 7114, and do pass the safety tests.
Lancashire trading standards officers are over-reacting by insisting they be taken off sale.
I am not going to be dictated to over what fireworks I am going to have for November 5 by them or any other safety campaigners.
I wear a pair of safety glasses and gloves when letting them off and I haven't had an accident yet and the safety gear is just a precaution.
The trading standards are big killjoys who want to stop families and people who want to put on displays for themselves with good fireworks. If used with care, display fireworks are quite safe.
