Alfreton Town 1 Accrington Stanley 3

THE form of debutant Peter Smith can only be described as inspirational.

Peter scored one and had a hand in the two other goals. His influence in the side started in the opening minutes of this UniBond Premier League game, when his cross found Welsh whose header was put out for a corner.

On nine minutes, Rawstron made a good run from midfield and his cross was forced away for another corner. Stanley's best move came five minutes later in a move which involved Smith, Welsh and Rawstron whose shot from close range went over the bar.

With the scoreline at 0-0 and fast approaching half time, Smith brought a good save from the home side keeper which he failed to hold. Welsh followed up only to see his effort scrambled away for yet another corner.

On 50 minutes Alfreton should have scored when Stafford tried to swing his leg at the ball and failed to connect when it would have been easier to heat. From the resulting long clearance Smith ran on to the ball and slotted under the advancing keeper giving Stanley the lead. Ten minutes later Smith's deep cross from the right found Edmonds at the far post who made the scoreline 2-0.

Alfreton pulled a goal back after 78 minutes, but this was short-lived when on 88 minutes Peter Smith crossed from the left for Rogerson to head home giving Stanley three points for a performance that could have produced a far greater scoreline and a debut to savour for Peter Smith.
