WINES, spirits, beers and a collection of novels are on offer to customers at Duckworth Hall Inn, Oswaldtwistle.
Landlord Stuart MacFarlane was organising collections for charity when he hit on the idea of utilising an empty shelf in the pub.
He said: "We had a jar for the Only Foals and Horses Sanctuary on the bar, but the shelf wasn't doing anything, so we just started to fill it up with books.
"Customers started to bring more and now the first thing our regulars do is have a look at what is on the shelves.
"They pay 20p per book and bring them back when they have finished. It works really well."
The pub has collected £100 to buy the lifetime adoption of a pony at the Oswaldtwistle sanctuary.
