WHEN it comes to knowing the rules of golf, Wilpshire Golf Club is the tops in the country.
A team from the club travelled to the Royal and Ancient headquarters at St Andrews to win a nationwide rules-of-golf competition and £5,000 worth of greens equipment for the club.
John Ditchfield, Steve Tart and Tom and Mary Martin triumphed over five other teams. They had previously won the northern regional county final against teams from Yorkshire, Cumbria, Northumberland and Lancashire.
"It is a marvellous achievement to win a competition of this standing," commented a Wilpshire official.
Last year, a team from Wilpshire reached the regional county finals in the competition, sponsored by Royal Insurance.
