LINE dance fever has hit Blackpool, so dig out your spurs and brush off your ten gallon hats!

This synchronised dance craze which, as the name suggests, is done in lines without a partner, has swept across Britain in a big way and is now arguably as popular as the Twist was back in the '60s.

Crazy dance names such as the Tush Push, Houston Slide and Slappin' Leather are part of the parcel and people of all ages and from all backgrounds are becoming hooked.

The dance originates from the US where it has also been a phenomenal coast-to-coast success, and now in order to cater for the huge public demand the first ever British line dancing championships are being held.

Regional heats are being held at 70 venues across the country , with Blackpool getting in line with its own heat at the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens tonight (October 10) at 7pm, culminating with the championship finals next Easter in London.

Don't be afraid if you've got two left feet, some of the dances are incredibly easy and instructors will be on hand for those without the know-how.

Live bands and DJ's will provide the latest hootin' tootin' country sounds to jig the night away with.

For those with a bit more expertise the competition has been divided up into three different categories: novice individual, experienced individual and teams of 4-6 people who will be judged as a group.

Prizes and trophies are up for grabs as is the chance to compete in the finals where the overall grand prize of a trip to Texas, USA.
