LIVEWIRE workers enjoyed learning how to stay healthy in a safer environment.
Spurred on by the current European Safety Week wiring wizards at Leigh's Volex factory last week staged an exhibition which as well as being informative and fun - raised funds for worthy causes.
The Butts Street Volex Wiring Systems vehicle and industrial specialists backed The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, The Dolphin Society for handicapped youngsters and Alder Hey Children's Hospital with a series of fun-d-raising events.
Volex occupational health nurse RGN Brenda Pendlebury explained:"We try to promote health and safety here and at home and the aim of the exercise is to prevent ill health and develop a safer place to work."
Volex workforce energiser Jan Slark, the company's "Just Do It" facilitator, explained how employees at the vast Butts Mill enthusiastically took part as they did in other aspects of the business.
Departmental sports events were held including a 10 mile run by Paul Yarwood and Karl Campbell and a two mile swim for The Dolphin Society by Denise Draper and four Rover unit workers.
Praising the workforce Jan said:"Employees wanted to raise money to help local children. They were glad to be able to put something back into the community. It was a valuable and enjoyable exercise.
"I have never worked anywhere before where employees have shown such kindness to each other and their community."
