SHOP workers Wendy Hill and Sharon Southcombe thought their expertise would see them ringing up the prizes on TV's Supermarket Sweep.
But the pair, who work at Food Giant in Leyland, hadn't reckoned on a microphone mishap which left the pair £2,000 out of pocket.
And they were surprised to discover that only the show's star Dale Winton was allowed a second take when he made a mistake.
Wendy, 43, said: "We were doing quite well until Sharon, who was pushing the trolley, only came back with a few things.
"She said her mike had dropped off and twisted round her legs. We thought the cameraman would stop and let us try again like he did when Dale fluffed his lines - but they said we had to carry on."
Despite missing out on the £2,000 top prize, the women didn't leave empty handed - they each received Dale Winton t-shirts.
