BAMBER BRIDGE sank deeper into trouble at the foot of the Unibond Premier Division as they crashed 2-0 to Boston United. But it was a case of what might have been for the Irongate side, who spurned five clear-cut chances.
In the first-half keeper Paul Bastock made three fine saves to keep United in the game, denying Grant Leitch and Mark Edwards twice - the second time by brilliantly topping the striker's goal-bound effort over the bar.
But Bastock could do nothing about headers from Leitch and David Eaves, both of which struck the crossbar.
Brig created little after the break and paid a heavy price for failing to take their chances.
Boston skipper Martin Hardy hit a terrific 30-yard effort beyond the reach of Joe Paladino on 37 minutes.
Then sub Darren Munton clinched it when his 25-yard free-kick took a wicked deflection off the Brig wall to wrong-foot Paladino.
Edwards struck the side netting for Brig with five minutes to go, but it was too little too late.
Brig boss Mick Holgate said: "We lacked a little luck."
The result leaves Brig one place off the foot of the Premier Division.
