RESIDENTS are to be asked for their opinions on whether traffic calming measures should be installed on a Rishton road.
Councillors agreed in June that a speed reducing scheme should be introduced on Station Road. And members of the environmental services committee have now decided that these measures should be extended to cover adjoining streets.
They are concerned the problem will be transferred to other roads as speeding motorists attempted to avoid the restrictions or regain lost time after being forced to travel more slowly.
Roads now included in the proposals are Highfield Road, Howarth Street, Knowles Street, St Charles' Road, Walmsley Avenue and Petre Crescent.
Councillors were told that the most appropriate measures would be to install speed humps, junction plateaux and to narrow the junction of St Charles' Road and Station Road.
Residents in the area will soon receive leaflets informing them of the proposals and a public exhibition will be held at the Rishton Area Services Office, 39 High Street, on October 21, 22, 24 and 25.
