LEIGH EAST produced the first major shock of the amateur Rugby League season.
The Grasmere Street battlers revived memories of their glory years to beat Premier League giants Saddleworth in the Burtonwood Brewery Lancashire Cup.
Super East won 24-20, finally clinching a second round tie when David Kay set up a game-winning touchdown for Gary Pendlebury.
But it was a battle-and-a-half!
East surprised their visitors with an 18-point surge in the first half-hour with tries from Brennan, Kay and Horne plus two goals from John Gunning and one from Tim Fletcher.
Then, with playmaker Gunning injured and off the field, East lost their way - and Saddleworth found theirs.
The Oldham side hit back to scare the life out of East at 18-14.
But East managed to re-group in time with some stern work in defence to hold their illustrious rivals and finally bounce them out with the Pendlebury try.
East U8s beat Waterhead with tries from A Holland 3, C Morgan 2, A Holden 2, L Tinsley and MOM P Jackson.
