A DISABLED man is hoping to ride the River Ribble rapids to raise money for charity!

Rodney Reddin will spend the winter training for the 20-mile journey between Ribchester and the river estuary.

Every penny he raises will go to the Macmillan Nurses and Cerebral Palsy charities.

Mr Reddin, of Ermine Close, Blackburn, said: "The last time I was in a canoe I was 15. The next time I get in one I'll be almost 50!

"I am partially disabled and will have to spend the next few months trying to build up my upper body muscles, getting sponsorship and inspecting the river so I get to know the route.

"I have still to buy a canoe or arrange to borrow one and I could use all the help I can get with sponsorship."

Mr Reddin is expecting the sponsored canoe trip to take a few hours and, although he would like to complete it without help, he would not refuse the offer of a helping hand from the river bank!

Anyone interested in helping Mr Reddin or sponsoring the trip can contact him on 01254 279297.
