POLICE are trying to identify a young man who leapt on to the bonnet of a Ford Transit van while it was travelling round a roundabout in St Helens town centre.
The incident happened at about 8.45pm on Sunday, October 6 on the Landings roundabout between the King Street and Duke Street exits.
When the driver - a 41-year-old local man - realised that his unwelcome 'passenger' wasn't going to jump off, he headed for St Helens Police Station in nearby College Street. But the man fell off as the van rounded a corner and was taken to Whiston Hospital suffering from head injuries. However, his condition worsened later that night and he was transferred to Walton Hospital's Neurological Unit.
He is described as being in his late teens or early 20s and is about 5ft 10ins tall, heavily tanned and of medium build. He was clean shaven with black, short, wiry hair and wore black jeans, a T-shirt and brown trainers. It is not yet clear whether he was with a group of friends or alone at the time of the incident.
Anyone who may have more information about the incident or who recognises the description of the man, is asked to contact the Traffic Police on 0151 777 6723.
