Morecambe 2 Northwich Vic 0 The early exchanges in the first half saw Morecambe creating many chances with Leaver and Jackson beating several players before forcing action from the keeper the third and sixth minutes.
Shrimps kept the pressure up until Northwich eventually began to press Morecambe's defence only to find Tony Hughes in uncompromising mood.
The best chance went to the Vic's Steve Walters in the 32nd minute whose fine shot from the edge of the box brought a brilliant one-handed save from Steve McIlhargey. But the Shrimps ended the half on top and with Justin Jackson's shot flashing past the post from close in.
The first goal come in the 66th minute when full back Chris Duffy made a clumsy challenge on John Norman in the area which resulted in a booking and a penalty which was duly dispatched by Dave McKearney.
Ian Cain returned to the team as a sub for Ben Lavelle to create more chances for Jackson. The second goal came in the 88th minute from Jim McCluskie who replaced Norman eight minutes earlier. Justin Jackson received the ball in the penalty area, rounded the keeper and provided a perfect cross for McCluskie to drive in with his head to seal victory.
