MILKMAN Peter Simpson had a shock awaiting him on the doorstep today.
Customers Dennis and Jean Knight were celebrating the day they moved into their home in Hillcrest Road, Langho, 35 years ago and realised it was also the very day that Peter delivered his first pinta at their house.
So when Peter came with their morning milk there was a bottle of something a bit stronger already waiting for him.
He said: "I honestly never expected anything like this. It's a lovely surprise and very kind of them."
Mrs Knight, who also designed an anniversary poster, said: "We were moving into our new house back in 1961 when Peter came asking for business. "He was just a teenager then and trying to set up his own business from the family farm at Old Langho and we said we would buy our milk from him.
"It was a decision we have never regretted and for the last 35 years he has been a reliable and friendly milkman. We've worked out Peter's delivered about 19 thousand pints so far!
Mr Knight moved his family to the area from Liverpool when he came to work at the Royal Ordnance Factory.
Mrs Knight, a retired speech therapist added: "Peter was one of the first people we knew and we have come to know him and his family over the years."
