WALT Meadows (Letters, September 14) states that privatisation has led to many benefits.
This may be so, as far as those running them are concerned, but what I would like to know is: if the Government is put into power and given custody of the public assets, what right has it to sell them off to private enterprise (some not even British) at knock-down prices?
Also, if it was unable to run the gas, water, electricity, railways, telephone industries, etc. in an efficient manner, how do they think they can be trusted to run the country?
The answer to that is, I think - They can't. And to get over that problem, they are gradually, and insidiously, selling us off to Brussels.
'Land of Hope and Glory' indeed!
