DUNCAN McVee (Letters, September 2), is concerned that collectors and shooters can legally own Kalashnikovs and other types of assault weapons.
While I can appreciate his point of view, I have known a number of shooters and collectors who have legally owned such firearms and they never ever caused me concern.
Firearms owners are generally responsible people who cause no inconvenience or danger to others.
However, readers may be interested to know that the legal ownership of all semi-automatic assault rifles has been banned in this country for some years and it is only British drug dealers, terrorists and other violent criminals who now own such weapons.
