FURIOUS Adrian Heath has warned his Burnley squad: "Shape up or get out."

The Turf Moor chief blasted Burnley's pathetic 1-0 defeat at Rotherham United as "totally unacceptable."

He rapped: "The performance at Rotherham was simply not good enough. It is beyond me to offer an explanation for such a lacklustre performance.

"Maybe the time has come to change certain faces. I have tried hard to bring players in and this display may force my hand a little quicker.

"In terms of application and determination what went on out on the pitch was totally unacceptable for this football club.

"I simply cannot justify the performance of some of the players at Rotherham. I warned them before the game that if we didn't approach the fixture in the right manner then we would not get anything.

"I have to accept responsibility when things are happening at the club. But what I can't accept was the performances of some individual players on Saturday. "Ultimately, it will be down to me when we look at league positions but one or two players have got to have a serious look at their own contribution after this."

Heath added: "It's all right players saying the right thing in the dressing room before the game but it's a case of action speaking louder than words.

"Unfortunately, too many of them talk a good game and don't actually go out there and deliver a good performance.

"We could have done no more in our preparation for the Rotherham game. We had a great week on the training ground. The players were in good spirit and looking forward to the game. Then they go and put in a performance like that.

The manager continued: "What saddens me most is that it doesn't seem to hurt them as much as it does me that we didn't get a result at Rotherham. "With respect to Rotherham we were playing against a very ordinary and poor side.

"I'll accept losing games if we have showed firm spirit and conviction. But I will just not accept what we saw at Rotherham."

Heath will be looking for an immediate improvement when the Clarets face third-placed Watford at Vicarage Road tomorrow.

"The players will have to show me a hundred times more at Watford. The bottom line is that we have stick together and work hard.

"Hopefully, we'll get enough points towards the end of the season to make it an interesting campaign.

"We need to start showing a lot more consistency. That is the key word."

Burnley's A team lost 3-1 to a powerful Liverpool A side on Saturday. Phil Eastwood was the Clarets goalscorer. Paul Dalglish, son of Kenny, was in the Liverpool line-up.
