BARROW 3 CHORLEY 0

CHORLEY face a renewed injury crisis after a thoroughly depressing night at Holker Street, where the depleted Magpies, without Abel, Ross and Emerson at kickoff, lost two players to injury by half time and finished well beaten in a very poor game.

A strong gusting wind made cohesive football extremely difficult for both sides and played a part in Barrow's fifth minute opener, when Andy Thorpe miscued his clearing header from a swirling cross to leave Tony Ford a gift goal.

The Magpies suffered a sickening blow when a dreadful challenge by striker Andy Green accounted for defensive kingpin Mark Wright, and Chorley's troubles were compounded when Karl Marginson was injured right on half time and finally stretchered off midway through the interval after lengthy treatment on the field.

Barrow went two up on 55 minutes when Jimmy Brown steered Green's left wing cross past Simon Marsh, but Chorley fought back with substitute Danny Worthington forcing keeper Mark Deegan into an acrobatic save, and Ian Balckstone shooting fractionally wide.

An explosive piece of finishing by Neil Morton on 70 minutes sealed Barrow's victory, his thunderous shot cannoning into the net off the crossbar.
