THE grotbusting work of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's award-winning environmental campaign was poised to receive royal approval today.
Grimewatch has been nominated by the Tidy Britain Group to receive one of the 1996 Queen Mother's Birthday Awards.
The Duchess of Gloucester was to present the accolades at a prestigious luncheon at London's Park Lane Hotel.
The awards recognise outstanding efforts in achieving and maintaining local environmental improvement. It is the second time Grimewatch has been nominated for the awards following its success four years ago.
The awards recognise companies, statutory organisations, local authorities, the media, voluntary groups, youth groups, schools and individuals for their outstanding efforts in achieving local environmental improvement.
They include the Queen Mother's Birthday Trophy, Premier Awards for the most outstanding achievement in nine categories, national commendation awards and regional special mention awards.
