TWO energy-conscious firms have scooped top awards for efficiency.
Silicone Engineering of Blackburn was highly commended in the Norweb Business Energy Awards.
And Bellini Pasta, also from Blackburn, was commended at the North West awards ceremony.
Silicone Engineering, which manufactures products for the vehicle and transport industry, built a new production line incorporating electric infra-red heaters for curing and an extraction system to protect operators from fumes.
The new process drastically reduced energy consumption and labour costs and improved the work environment.
And Bellini Pasta was looking for a more efficient way of removing moisture from its products, particularly lasagne.
The original system was taking too long to dry and Bellini invested in a new dryer which has reduce production costs significantly.
