A MAN was given life-saving treatment in the street after his throat was slashed from ear to ear during a fight.

A large crowd witnessed the dispute between two men, on Largs Road, Blackburn, which happened at about 8.45pm last night.

Paramedic Paul Allonby and ambulance technician David Haworth worked to save the victim.

The man, who is in his twenties and has not been named, underwent surgery last night and is now recovering in Blackburn Royal Infirmary. He was due to undergo another operation today but he is believed to be out of danger.

Detectives were today looking for the weapon used in the attack and appealing for witnesses to contact them on Blackburn 51212 with information.

They were due to visit the hospital to interview the injured man when he was well enough to talk to them..

Detective Sergeant Wilf Robinson of Blackburn CID said: "The weapon used could have been a knife but it is possible it was glass or another sharp instrument. We need to find it."
