A MILLION-pound deal could take a Fylde attraction into the Millennium with a great new look.

Pleasure Island in St Annes has struck up a partnership with Whitbread Bowland Inns - and if their plans are approved by Fylde Borough Council there could be much more family fun at the seafront venue.

Michael Taylor, director of Carr Royd Parks, the company which owns Pleasure Island, said: "Pleasure Island is well known in the family fun market, but after building the first two cinemas to give the lead in turning the site into an all-year-round attraction, a major partner has become essential.

"To complement the cinemas, the Train and the George Formby Experience, we need a strong quality catering brand which is well known throughout the country so that when holiday visitors and residents come to Pleasure Island they know exactly what they are getting."

So the company chose Whitbread Bowland Inns, which runs the Charlie Chalk Fun Factory and Brewers Fayre concepts - one of each is planned for the Pleasure Island concept.

The St Annes fun factory would be the largest ever built by Whitbread and would compensate for the loss of the present indoor trails in the Pleasure Island main building.

Another cinema screen is planned for the existing building and the train would house a cafe, relocated from the Open Air Baths Cafe, which would need to be moved if the plans all go ahead.

Mr Taylor expects the work, once given the go-ahead will only take 16-18 weeks and could be completed by July.

Fylde's tourism and leisure committee will be discussing the proposals and making their decision shortly.
