A GUN was held to a man's head and the trigger pulled as he sat in his car outside his home.
He was pounced on by two black men and one Asian on his driveway in London Road on Monday evening.
But the gun misfired and he managed to escape.
Det Insp Helm of Preston Police said: "A large Afro-Caribbean man who pointed a pistol at his face. "The pistol was placed against his head. He thinks the trigger was pulled and the weapon didn't discharge."
Next, the victim was told to sit in the passenger seat and was joined in the car by another black man and a tall Asian.
He jumped from the car chased by one of the men while the other two drove after them.
At this point the car was involved in a minor accident with another vehicle. The gunmen got out of the car and ran off.
