THE stars have caused a major disappointment for Elton High School.
For young astronomer Chloe Hirst was just one of many residents who objected to the school's plans to build a multi-sports centre.
Chloe (8) of Owlerbarrow Road, feared the proposed floodlighting would eclipse her chances of seeing stars.
The school applied to upgrade and extend two hard surface play areas as a netball centre to be used by pupils during the day and by sports clubs at the evenings and weekends.
But residents of nearby Walshaw Road and Owlerbarrow Road complained that pupils already cause a nuisance with noise, bad language and litter which would be made worse if the proposal was approved.
They also feared properties would be devalued and that problems would be caused by an increase in traffic, especially for netball tournaments.
Bury Council's planning control sub-committee refused the application on the grounds of the noise, light and disturbance that would be caused and a lack of detailed information about the proposals.
