Lancaster recorded their third straight away cup victory as they progressed to the second qualifying round of the F.A. Trophy.
The result extended their unbeaten run to seven games, five of which have been won, and maintains confidence in the build up to next Saturday's big cup tie against Morecambe. The players could be forgiven for having next week's game on their mind as they eased their way through against a struggling Warrington side on a lumpy pitch that made control very difficult.
The first half was very scrappy with neither side creating any real scoring opportunities although City was the more dangerous going forward and looked relatively comfortable in defence.
City stepped up their game in the second half and took the lead after 52 minutes. A good cross from Mark Shirley reached Stuart Gelling who laid the ball into John Coleman's path and he drilled a shot past Graham Bennett into the net.
The game was looking so comfortable for City there was a danger of complacency creeping in and they almost gifted Warrington an equaliser after 68 minutes when the ball was given away and Paul Loughlin failed to hit the target from a good position.
City almost extended their lead after 74 minutes when a good ball forward from Paul Lodge set Gelling free but Bennett denied him with a good save.
City made absolutely certain of victory in the last minute when Peter Borrowdale netted to earn them a home tie against Droylslen or Leigh RMI in the next round.
