HAVING being blocked by public protest over their earlier plans to demolish the three historic and listed, but neglected Waterloo buildings in Blackburn's Church Street, the town council owners are now trying to sell them to developers who will have to do them up.

This is a better approach - and not just in the case of these buildings.

For Blackburn has a sad history of looking after its history. Too many of its architectural treasures were bulldozed in the 1960s redevelopment of the town centre.

Now every effort should be made to save the few which are left.
