THOUSANDS of people in parts of Burnley, Reedley, Brierfield and Nelson area woke this morning to find they were without water.
North West Water began receiving calls at about 6.30am and were soon inundated with inquiries from anxious householders.
Four hours later the burst had still not been located.
A NWW spokesman said: "Inspectors have been out in the area but so far have not been able to locate the burst, which must be on one of the big mains to have affected such a large area. With this kind of incident, if it does not show on the surface it can be difficult to locate.
"They are trying very hard and a message explaining the situation has been left on our answerphone so that people are not having to queue waiting to get through.''
