A TOURISM chief has slammed the Government for its "narrow and misguided" view of the North West.
Anthony Goldstone, chairman of the North West Tourist Board, said the region was not getting the profile or priority it deserved.
Speaking at the Board's annual meeting he said: "The Government's view is a narrow and misguided one.
"The tourism industry has the potential to regenerate this country. It is the greatest job and wealth creator and should be given the support it needs to continue to develop." Mr Goldstone also attacked the public support the FA and Sports Council had given to the national stadium going to Wembley.
He added: "This is a tremendous body blow to Manchester and the region.
"The North West is synonymous with sport, this is our heritage and with a better transport infrastructure than London.
"I am disgusted these two bodies chose to go public with their views."
