IT IS TAKING traffic as long as an hour to get from Darwen to Blackburn as two major roadwork schemes clash and huge tailbacks occur at temporary traffic lights.
And the jams are not just a nuisance, they are a real worry for the emergency services.
Why could not these chaos-causing schemes - necessary though they are - have been co-ordinated so they did not coincide? a fire chief asks today.
Indeed, why not?
Why cannot the county highways authority have the power to determine who does what and when on the roads?
Surely, it is not beyond the wit of man to make such an arrangement.
