Wrexham 1 Bury 1
BURY won a point, but few friends from their trip to Wales.
Although a striker was sacrificed to play five men in midfield, there was little creative football leaving strikers Mark Carter and Phil Stant chasing hopeful long balls.
The home side took a second half lead through Bryan Hughes who scored with a neat header and even though Wrexham goalkeeper Marriott was substituted in the first half, having broken his jaw, the Shakers gave his stand-in little to do until substitute Tony Rigby appeared.
Bury scrambled a last-minute equaliser through Dean West thanks to a fumble from the goalkeeper. Manager Stan Ternent was not a happy man. After the game he said: "We were the luckiest team in the world to get a draw. That was by far our worst performance of the season.
"As a unit we lacked cohesion and never threatened their goal anywhere near enough.
"Everything our game is based on was poor tonight."
I am obviously grateful for a point, but we have got to do better than that if we are to be a force to be reckoned with.
"We had plenty of commitment and effort which I always get from them, but it was channelled in the wrong direction."
The Bury boss confirmed that the day following a night game is normally a day off, but he added: "It was our worst performance of the season so far and we'll be in tomorrow working towards Saturday, but we've got to crack on and get it right."
