REFERENDA have been in the news in recent weeks. This is the consultative system whereby Parliament asks the people if they are in favour of or against a proposal.
Again in recent weeks, the Government gave the arms industry £2 million. Most of these arms will be exported by British private companies to many countries which often have difficulty in feeding their people.
Were you asked as a British taxpayer whether you supported this measure?
Also recently, the British Government took a leading part in the proposal to spend £40 billion on the Eurofighter. Germany, in particular, is somewhat hesitant about the wisdom of this. Again, did the Government ask the taxpayer were they happy about this?
It is the taxpayer who will be asked to pay for both these schemes. Neither of these reckless projects is in the best interest of the taxpayer or even mankind.
K BUTLER (Mr), Haston Lee Avenue, Brownhill, Blackburn.
