A FORMER lecturer at Bury College died in the chopper crash which claimed the life of Chelsea vice-chairman Matthew Harding.

John Bauldie (47) was one of five killed in the crash in Cheshire on Tuesday night.

A graduate of Leeds University, Mr Bauldie taught at the former Bury Technical College for several years in the 1970s and early 80s before becoming a freelance music journalist.

Born and brought up in Farnworth, Mr Bauldie lived in Radcliffe for a time before moving to London.

He was one of the country's leading authorities on Bob Dylan, and it was through this work he met multi-millionaire Mr Harding, another fan of Dylan.

The two were travelling back to London from Bolton after Chelsea lost 2-1 to Wanderers in the Coca Cola Cup.

The helicopter which crashed was the same one Tony Blair used to visit Bury earlier this month.

The Labour leader and his Bury-born wife Cherie used the ill-fated chopper to drop in on children at Heaton Park CP School in Prestwich on a whistle-stop tour after the Labour Party Conference.
