SO Lancashire County Council is to continue with its well-established practice of performing backward somersaults to accommodate the insatiable demands of its Asian employees (LET, October 21).

This time, they are agreeing to the wearing of traditional dress to work, special areas for prayer, special diets and paid leave to attend functions.

One wonders what would be the reaction if, for instance, a number of Scottish employees were to demand similar accommodations - such as attending work resplendent in kilts and sporrans, having porridge and haggis available in the canteens and paid leave to attend functions like the Highland Games, and being provided with facilities, in working hours of course, to practise such stirring tunes as 'Highland Laddie' and 'Cock o'the North' on the babpipes.
